Four Nights in Vegas

Bigger than the London Eye!

We decided to go to Hoover Dam in the morning. It was really hot. I mean really hot. OMG! I really did not want to do anything in this heat. How do these people live like this? John did not want to take the tour and I just wanted to see the dam. John even walked out on the bridge to see the front side of the dam but it was making me nausea just thinking about him going out on that walkway. Ugh. Not for me.

After the Hoover Dam it just made sense to head to Sew Yeah, a large quilt store in Las Vegas. It is the largest quilt store in Nevada and I would say the largest in the world. It is huge. I was so excited because I have watched their videos but, I’m not going to lie. It is huge, so huge and there is sooooo much fabric. Lots of beautiful fabric but, not biased but, Flash Sew & Quilt has more beautiful fabric than this store. Don’t get me wrong, they have a great selection. Lots of minky. I didn’t see–and that doesn’t mean they don’t have it but, I walked the entire store and did not see Kaffee, nor Tula, nor Tilda. Again, it might be there but I did not see it. It is a beautiful store, the staff was friendly and I highly recommend visiting if you are in the area. This is a huge stand alone store!

Later we took a drive along the strip for John to see what all the hype is about. He really wasn’t interested in much. Thought it was ok. WHAT? The guy is not normal.

The next day we took a drive to the Valley of Fire State Park. John didn’t want to go because all the dangerous trails were shut down. I mean, what would we do? My thoughts were, we’ll go for a nice ride through the park and save me from hiking in the heat. This was working perfectly for me. Who really wants to hike in 90 degree weather. Needless to say, John still was glad we went. It would have been nice if we could have hiked a trail and the weather was in the 70’s but that wasn’t the case so yeah, drive through.

We hung out at the pool, gave the dog a bath, did laundry and chilled a little all week.

Third Time is a Charm–Right?

Yup! We had a blowout! Just after leaving Kingman we heard a whoosh sound and immediately pulled over. It was funny (not really) but, John had just mentioned the tire pressure gauge looking good and then the whoosh. That was a new tire and it was totally shredded and wrapped around the wheel/axle. It was hard enough for John to get it jacked up because we were on a slant on the side of the flat–at least that is what I think was happening. I did get out to help because we were on the highway and I was really worried. We immediately went back to Kingman to buy a new wheel and tire. By immediately I do mean after John changed it. So maybe an hour later. And to think I was so worried about getting to Vegas too early to check in. That wasn’t a problem.

We arrived at our campground about 3:00 PM and set up camp. This is super nice. There is a dog park with 4 different size kennels to let your dog run. There is a dog bathing station, a pool, spa, gym and of course clubhouse. Some people stay long term here. We put dinner in the crockpot–a little later than we planned but, we went for a drive to Red Rock Canyon.

A great ending to the day. We came back to camp to a home cooked meal, played some scrabble and off to bed. Tomorrow is Hoover Dam.

Vegas Can Wait

This is somewhere in Kingman on our way to a hike.

We opted to stay one more day in Kingman. We found a campground in Vegas from the 3rd til the 7th. Adults only. Woohoo. So, today we set off to take a hike. John found one and we headed over. It really was a beautiful day. The trailhead was called White Cliff Wagon Wheel. As we were driving I decided to get my hair cut at great clips–because I saw one and my hair was driving me nuts. I should have done this before I left for vacation. I really don’t like to use places like this but, John wouldn’t cut it so. Anyway, it came out ok. It definitely feels better.

Hair cut and off we went. The first set of directions took us up the mountains and onto this horrible dirt road only to come to the end on the wrong side of I-40. Looked like they filled in the underpass so we had to go back and drive all around to another underpass to get there. Luckily it was a beautiful day and we had nothing better to do. I must say, this trip has been so relaxing.

After this trail we headed into the historic town of Kingman where route 66 runs through. It is an adorable town. That’s where the quilt stores were. I got a picture of Connies and of course a video driving down. There was also a Santa Fe engine and Caboose at a park. John had to go inside the engine.

After spending the day just tooling around we went back to camp where John hung out with our host and I continued to update our blog and facebook and all that stuff. I was working. Then we sat on our hosts front porch and watched the quail–waiting for a roadrunner who never made his appearance. We also had a visit from a desert wren.

And that was pretty much our day.
