Zion

We made it! We met up at a Walmart just before entering Utah–which was a really good idea because Utah doesn’t approve all alcohol. That would have been a shame. At least for some adults. Anyway after everyone stocked up on food we headed out. We had booked a trip down the Virgin river in tubes first. So we parked our campers and headed down the road to our river adventure. And what an adventure it was. Not your typical tubing. It was more like a combination of white water rafting and tubing. Floating along and all of a sudden fast water. Getting hung up on rocks and breaking loose, then running into the brush on the side. Super fun.

Next we went back to camp to make a quick dinner before heading to Zion for a sunset picture. What magnificent views. We had a bit of a hike and naturally, I couldn’t make it all the way to the top. Which worked out fine because this big anvil shaped cloud blocked the view. The next morning Melissa, Mike and John got up early to do a hike and Christy and I had coffee outside the campers. I am really liking this. We packed up the kids and headed into Zion for our smaller hike. Needless to say it was so crowded we would have to park outside the park, wait for the shuttle and take that in, then get the shuttle back. We did not have enough time because we had to check out by 11:00. So we went into the park and parked in a “safety” zone and ran into the visitor center to get our stamp–it was the first time for the kids. We decided we would hit Zion up on the way back.

Christy and I had already gotten the camper ready for John to load up so we met them up the road before we headed to Page AZ. On the way we made a stop at the Sand Caves. Another hike I couldn’t complete. You had to climb ropes to get to the top. I walked with Chanel and Melissa stayed with me because she had already been up and down. This was really cool.

We made it to our campground Page Lake Powell Campground and set up before we headed to the Shell Gas Station Caves. OMG there are so many places to go and see.

That wasn’t the end of the day. We went to Horseshoe Bend for a sunset and that is where I will start tomorrow. Whew it is so hard to keep up. We hit the ground running in the morning and don’t stop til late at night.

Our Last Night in Vegas

Ok, I know I said four nights in Vegas and then I only mentioned three. My bad. Our last day in Vegas was our 31st Anniversary. And we are still on our honeymoon. We headed to Clark County Wetlands only to discover we could only take the dog on the outside walkway and not in the park. So we decided to head to Seven Magic Mountains. This was on the other side of Vegas heading toward Los Angeles. It is 15 miles outside Vegas. All I can say is Wow.

See all 7 mountains of colored rocks? That’s it. I still don’t get it. Nothing magical to me and lots of driving for that. Oh well. You win some, you lose some. Next we took Chanel back to the camper and we went into town to ride the High Roller. Now that is something you really don’t want to miss. It really was the highlight of our day and it was so slow (business wise) the two of us got the cabin all to ourselves. This is bigger than the London Eye. It moves very slowly so it never stops. You walk on as it goes. It takes 30 minutes to go around and you can see all over the city. It really was amazing.

Later we went to dinner and headed back to the camp. Tomorrow is a big day. We are meeting up with the kids to go on to Zion, Grand Canyon and Arches. Going to be a full week.

Four Nights in Vegas

Bigger than the London Eye!

We decided to go to Hoover Dam in the morning. It was really hot. I mean really hot. OMG! I really did not want to do anything in this heat. How do these people live like this? John did not want to take the tour and I just wanted to see the dam. John even walked out on the bridge to see the front side of the dam but it was making me nausea just thinking about him going out on that walkway. Ugh. Not for me.

After the Hoover Dam it just made sense to head to Sew Yeah, a large quilt store in Las Vegas. It is the largest quilt store in Nevada and I would say the largest in the world. It is huge. I was so excited because I have watched their videos but, I’m not going to lie. It is huge, so huge and there is sooooo much fabric. Lots of beautiful fabric but, not biased but, Flash Sew & Quilt has more beautiful fabric than this store. Don’t get me wrong, they have a great selection. Lots of minky. I didn’t see–and that doesn’t mean they don’t have it but, I walked the entire store and did not see Kaffee, nor Tula, nor Tilda. Again, it might be there but I did not see it. It is a beautiful store, the staff was friendly and I highly recommend visiting if you are in the area. This is a huge stand alone store!

Later we took a drive along the strip for John to see what all the hype is about. He really wasn’t interested in much. Thought it was ok. WHAT? The guy is not normal.

And for a short video of our trip down the strip click here. https://youtu.be/XtXO2G_ioC8?si=GL7t0bsbFeG-nnxX

The next day we took a drive to the Valley of Fire State Park. John didn’t want to go because all the dangerous trails were shut down. I mean, what would we do? My thoughts were, we’ll go for a nice ride through the park and save me from hiking in the heat. This was working perfectly for me. Who really wants to hike in 90 degree weather. Needless to say, John still was glad we went. It would have been nice if we could have hiked a trail and the weather was in the 70’s but that wasn’t the case so yeah, drive through.

John also took a few videos driving through here. If you want to see it, click here. https://youtu.be/9OYkuuF8w4U

We hung out at the pool, gave the dog a bath, did laundry and chilled a little all week.
