Four Nights in Vegas

Bigger than the London Eye!

We decided to go to Hoover Dam in the morning. It was really hot. I mean really hot. OMG! I really did not want to do anything in this heat. How do these people live like this? John did not want to take the tour and I just wanted to see the dam. John even walked out on the bridge to see the front side of the dam but it was making me nausea just thinking about him going out on that walkway. Ugh. Not for me.

After the Hoover Dam it just made sense to head to Sew Yeah, a large quilt store in Las Vegas. It is the largest quilt store in Nevada and I would say the largest in the world. It is huge. I was so excited because I have watched their videos but, I’m not going to lie. It is huge, so huge and there is sooooo much fabric. Lots of beautiful fabric but, not biased but, Flash Sew & Quilt has more beautiful fabric than this store. Don’t get me wrong, they have a great selection. Lots of minky. I didn’t see–and that doesn’t mean they don’t have it but, I walked the entire store and did not see Kaffee, nor Tula, nor Tilda. Again, it might be there but I did not see it. It is a beautiful store, the staff was friendly and I highly recommend visiting if you are in the area. This is a huge stand alone store!

If you want to see inside this store check it out.https://youtu.be/eE3208JMVkM?si=ZiQe2OTnUaqSucv-

Later we took a drive along the strip for John to see what all the hype is about. He really wasn’t interested in much. Thought it was ok. WHAT? The guy is not normal.

And for a short video of our trip down the strip click here. https://youtu.be/XtXO2G_ioC8?si=GL7t0bsbFeG-nnxX

The next day we took a drive to the Valley of Fire State Park. John didn’t want to go because all the dangerous trails were shut down. I mean, what would we do? My thoughts were, we’ll go for a nice ride through the park and save me from hiking in the heat. This was working perfectly for me. Who really wants to hike in 90 degree weather. Needless to say, John still was glad we went. It would have been nice if we could have hiked a trail and the weather was in the 70’s but that wasn’t the case so yeah, drive through.

John also took a few videos driving through here. If you want to see it, click here. https://youtu.be/9OYkuuF8w4U

We hung out at the pool, gave the dog a bath, did laundry and chilled a little all week.

Vegas Can Wait

This is somewhere in Kingman on our way to a hike.

We opted to stay one more day in Kingman. We found a campground in Vegas from the 3rd til the 7th. Adults only. Woohoo. So, today we set off to take a hike. John found one and we headed over. It really was a beautiful day. The trailhead was called White Cliff Wagon Wheel. As we were driving I decided to get my hair cut at great clips–because I saw one and my hair was driving me nuts. I should have done this before I left for vacation. I really don’t like to use places like this but, John wouldn’t cut it so. Anyway, it came out ok. It definitely feels better.

Hair cut and off we went. The first set of directions took us up the mountains and onto this horrible dirt road only to come to the end on the wrong side of I-40. Looked like they filled in the underpass so we had to go back and drive all around to another underpass to get there. Luckily it was a beautiful day and we had nothing better to do. I must say, this trip has been so relaxing.

  • This is on private property (well at the entrance) Not sure if the car had those bullet holes before they placed it there or if they used the car for target practice.

After this trail we headed into the historic town of Kingman where route 66 runs through. It is an adorable town. That’s where the quilt stores were. I got a picture of Connies and of course a video driving down. There was also a Santa Fe engine and Caboose at a park. John had to go inside the engine.

I made a short video driving down the road in Kingman. https://youtu.be/qstI4PWmHW8

After spending the day just tooling around we went back to camp where John hung out with our host and I continued to update our blog and facebook and all that stuff. I was working. Then we sat on our hosts front porch and watched the quail–waiting for a roadrunner who never made his appearance. We also had a visit from a desert wren.

And that was pretty much our day.

London Bridge Isn’t Falling Down

There it is in all it’s glory in Havasu, AZ

Today we started off planning to go to the Grand Canyon West Skywalk but first we had to go into town to get gas. While heading in the opposite direction I started reading about the skywalk. We thought it was just a walk along the west rim of the Grand Canyon. Apparently it is a glass walkway. Aside from the fact it is a glass walkway which I have no interest in, no pets are allowed. So we decided to head to Havasu to see the London Bridge. We had an early start as we woke to the sunrise at 5:20 am.

This was looking out our door this morning at 5:20.

Anyway, onward to Havasu. The London Bridge was purchased in 1964 by Robert P. McCulloch, Sr. for $2.46 million, then dismantled and shipped by boat from England to the U.S. It was rebuilt on a peninsula on Lake Havasu in 1971 for an additional $5.1 million. A channel was excavated under the bridge, and a replica English Village was built next to it. The opening of the London Bridge in October 1971 brought the world’s largest antique to the area, a world-famous attraction that continues to draw tens of thousands of sightseers to Lake Havasu City. The last one is Chanel waiting patiently for John to come out of the visitor center.

Since we got such an early start and still had no real plans we decided to head for Peach Spring. We saw some great pictures of a river and views. So we headed there. It took about an hour and a half. We arrived in Peach Spring which in on a reservation but could not find the river. We really need to do more research before we head out because the pictures are about 2 hours from Peach Spring. You can get the natives to take you on a bus to the river to go tubing or rafting and touring. Again, that wasn’t our plan. We really like to explore on our own, take some short hikes (at least for me) and take some pictures. On our way back we stopped at Hackberry. A small town on old Rte 66 that has an old gas station turned tourist trap.

After checking it out we headed back to camp where I caught up on some blog posts and John helped our boondocker host do some repairs on something.

Later, John and I went out to eat at Sundowner’s Saloon. It was really good and the staff was really friendly.

Tomorrow we are suppose to head to Las Vegas but, we’ll see. We haven’t found a campground yet. We may stay here another day or two.
